Say Hello to the Best Version Of You with LloydsPharmacy this Winter
The weather is changing and with it comes a threat to winter wellness every year. Sore throats and flu spread through communities, causing disruption to daily life and more importantly, danger to those most vulnerable around us. LloydsPharmacyaims to help keep their patients as healthy as possible all year round and is urging people to visit their local pharmacy for their flu vaccination and sore throat service.
Why should you visit your local LloydsPharmacy?
LloydsPharmacy have many highly trained health experts in local communities around Ireland. With over 17,000 hours of training, these trusted colleagues are ready to help you stay healthy throughout the season. Whilst help is always at hand when illness strikes, LloydsPharmacy believe that prevention is the key to a happier, healthier winter.
The Flu Vaccine
It is important that everyone should consider getting the flu vaccination not only to stay healthy themselves but for those around them and avoid the spread of the flu. It is particularly important for specific at-risk groups to be vaccinated against the flu
Getting a seasonal flu vaccine helps a person’s immune system to produce antibodies to the flu virus. If you are over 65 years, or an at-risk patient aged 10-64 , who holds a Medical Card, Doctor Visit Card or has HAA eligibility, winter flu vaccination is FREE. If you are over 65, or one of the at-risk patients aged 10-64, and are not eligible for any of the above schemes, winter flu vaccination costs €15. For all other patients over 10years outside of the categories above, winter flu vaccination costs €20. This year is the first year that you can have your child 10 or over vaccinated against the flu in community pharmacy.
The Sore Throat Service
Up to 80% of sore throats are caused by viruses, which cannot be treated by antibiotics. However, some are caused by bacterial infection which may require antibiotics to treat. The most common cause of bacterial sore throat is Group A Streptococcus (Strep Throat), which can lead to further complications.LloydsPharmacy Sore Throat Service will rapidly detect whether a sore throat is Strep A, or not. This will then advise the patient toto visit their GP for further consultation and determine if antibiotics are required. The initial consultation and assessment using The FeverPain Score Card is FREE and the service itself costs just €7 (only if a Sore Throat Service swab is carried out). Please note that this service is only available to patients aged 18 and over.
